Shree Janaki Secondary School

Shree Janaki Secondary School, located in Meghauli, Chitwan, was established in 1968. As a government-funded, community-based institution, it provides education from first grade to twelfth grade. The school has a dedicated team of 45 teachers, serving around 1,000 students.

Hari and Ram Bhandary, founders of Clinic Nepal, are former students. When Hari and Ram went to Shree Janaki it was just a small building, with not enough space to house all of the students. Classes were mostly held outside, with one teacher to almost 80 students. Shree Janaki school was Hari’s first project ever. Once he got a position working with an international organization, Hari sent money back to his friends to sponsor them to be teachers and bought pencils for the students at Shree Janaki. A key supporter of the school since 1992, Clinic Nepal’s contributions have gone on to sponsor over 500 local students. Clinic Nepal has led various educational, healthcare, and sanitation initiatives at Shree Janaki school.

Hari Bhandary’s dream was always to build a better school. In 2016, Hari’s dedication as a humanitarian was recognized by being nominated by Rotary International for “The ONE International Humanitarian Award”. Using his prize money as a finalist, Clinic Nepal was able to build onto Shree Janaki by adding another level to the top of Shree Janaki school, which is roughly 300 ft long. And in doing that, Clinic Nepal was able to create space for a new 2-year science and math high school, dedicated to serving the underprivileged students.

In Nepal, most science and math high schools were only at private schools, not public schools, like Shree Janaki. Clinic Nepal felt it important to create a high school that gave anyone, no matter their caste, class, or gender, equal opportunities to attend a science and math high school. This opportunity gives academic students from marginalized backgrounds a chance to further their education, previously not offered to them. Having high marks in Science and Math allows for the opportunity to go on to any university to study Medicine, Engineering, or really anywhere they would like to go. Also, with the prize money from Rotary, Clinic Nepal bought Shree Janaki’s first school bus, so that students from far away can go to school.

The impact of this expansion has already been evident. As of 2025, over 70 students have gone through this program to go on to further educational institutes, many of whom have obtained government scholarships to do so. Clinic Nepal expresses its deep gratitude to all individuals and organizations that have contributed to support these educational initiatives. This support has been instrumental in enhancing the school's resources and opportunities. Moving forward, Clinic Nepal remains dedicated to fostering educational development and ensuring that students at Shree Janaki Secondary School receive the best possible learning experience.
